$200 signup bonus w/ $500 spend, not subject to 5/24

Edit: Based on recent reports, this card might now be subject to Chase’s 5/24 rule.

For those interested in cashback signup bonuses, there is a newly increased offer for a $200 statement credit after $500 in purchases in the first 3 months that is not believed to be subject to the Chase 5/24 rule on the Disney Visa Credit card – which is only currently available via a referral offer. Those who currently have the Disney Credit Card can also earn an increased referral bonus of $100 per friend who signs up (up to $500 total). While that bonus is normally available on the Premier card that comes with an annual fee, this bonus is now available on the no annual fee version. This card has a terrible earning rate on everyday spend, but the signup bonus and perks might make it worth it for Disney fans or those looking for a cashback bonus with a low spend requirement.

The Offer

  • Earn a $200 statement credit after you spend $500 on purchases in the first 3 months
  • Find a link on our Best Offers page.

Key Card Details

  • Card earns 1% back in “Disney Dream Dollars” on all purchases
  • Character meet-and-greet in a private cardmember area
  • 10% off select merchandise purchases of $50 or more at Disney Store and DisneyStore.com
  • No annual fee (note there is also an annual-fee version with the same signup bonus but no measurable benefit)

Quick Thoughts

A $200 signup bonus requiring only $500 in spend is a pretty good deal in terms of cashback bonuses. If you’re over 5/24 with little chance of being under anytime soon, this could be a good way to save $200 on a big purchase.

That said, this card is pretty terrible beyond the signup bonus. It earns an abysmal 1% back in Disney Dream Reward Dollars that can be redeemed “toward most anything Disney and Star Wars at most Disney locations, including Theme Park tickets, Resort stays, shopping, dining and more“. In other words, it earns 1% back in the form of a currency that can only be used toward most anything at most Disney locations. It would make more sense to get a card like the Citi Double Cash that earns an effective 2% cashback everywhere (thereby earning cash back that can be used on anything you want, not just most Disney purchases at most Disney parks). You could do even better for the first year with the Discover IT Miles card, which earns 1.5% back everywhere, but will be doubled at the end of the first year (good for 3% back everywhere). That said, if you’re looking for a decent signup bonus, the Disney card certainly has them beat.

In terms of benefits, you can get this card’s benefits without applying for a credit card. The character meet-and-greet and 10% Disney Store discounts are also features that you can get with the Disney Debit Card, available with almost any Chase consumer checking account.

On the plus side, the current referral bonus has increased to $100 per friend who applies and is approved up to $500 per calendar year. As I learned last year, new cards can become eligible for referral bonuses very quickly (See: How soon can you refer others for Chase cards?). If you’re playing this came in 2-player mode with a spouse or significant other, Person A could open the card and then theoretically refer Person B — in the end netting $400 in signup bonuses + one $100 referral bonus for a total of $500 on $1,000 spend. That’s not a bad deal at all.

As always, we have added a direct link to this offer on our Best Offers page.

Sharing your referrals

If you have this card, you can generate a referral link at the Chase Refer a Friend site (click here to find your link). If you have a referral link to share, head over to our Frequent Miler Insiders Facebook group and share it as a reply to my first comment in the related thread. Please only share links to the no-fee version of the card (as the annual-fee version isn’t as good of a deal). Comments here with links get caught in our spam filter here and will not post, so head over to our Facebook group to share. Thanks!

Any possibility of product changing this later to a Chase-branded card like a Freedom or Freedom Unlimited?

I had the same question. Can some one chip in?
