Avis and SAS Eurobonus (the loyalty program of Scandinavian Airlines) are teaming up with a promotion to offer 10,000 Eurobonus miles when you book a 3-day Avis rental in Group C or larger by April 15th for travel between May 14th, 2018 and March 30th, 2019. You may remember a bit of a fiasco with an SAS promotion with Hertz last year, where they changed the terms midway through the promotion. However, they eventually honored the miles from the bookings I made before the change in terms (See: Surprise! SAS miles from Hertz rental actually posted already) for a full recap. I expect this promotion would be honored as written.

Quick Thoughts

While my initial searched returned pretty high rates in most places (the best I found were in the $130-$150 range for 3 days), Ric Garrido at Loyalty Traveler shows at least one option where a 3-day rental would cost about $100. That can be a great value because SAS has a pretty decent award chart. Business class from the US to Europe is 60K one-way or 100K round trip. Loyalty Traveler also shows what an amazing value you can get out of just 10K points used for domestic flights within Scandinavia in this great post. If you’re looking to travel to some of the more remote parts of Norway, this promo could be a great way to get you around the country.

Though there was that snafu last year on the Hertz promo, they honored my bookings without any intervention. Furthermore, the original terms stated no minimum rental time — the eventual change was to require 3-day rentals. Since this promotion is requiring 3-day rentals right off the bat, I don’t think there is much risk of the promo changing.

It’s certainly worth comparing rates to see if this is worth it, though if you can make a number of bookings, I suspect it wouldn’t be hard to come out ahead.
