United is sending out emails to some MileagePlus members offering entry to their Mile Play promotion. Mile Play offers a set of challenges that can earn you bonus miles, so can be pretty rewarding if you’ll be booking a United flight.
- Earn bonus United MileagePlus miles with targeted Mile Play promotion.
- Direct link to registration (enter membership number to see if you’re targeted).
- Registration required.
- Only transactions initiated after registration and completed on or prior to May 15, 2019 will qualify toward satisfaction of offer requirements.
Mile Play promotions are a little like IHG’s Accelerate promos where they set you tasks and you earn bonus miles for each one that you complete.
Each set of challenges is targeted, with my wife receiving the following three challenges:
We don’t have any upcoming air travel we need to book, so we probably won’t take advantage of the first task which, incidentally, requires a minimum fare of $175. That’s a fairly good offer though as if she’d flown a fare costing $175, that task is worth 20 bonus miles per dollar.
The Marriott stay isn’t worthwhile for the most part given that we’d be forgoing points, status benefits, up to 10% portal cashback, etc. That said, if she’d completed the first and third tasks, it would be worth considering as a one night stay would then earn not only the 500 bonus miles but also the 4,200 bonus for completing all three challenges. Edit: As George pointed out in the comments below, we’d still earn points, receive elite benefits, etc. through RewardsPlus.
We probably will download the United app and sign in though as that’s an easy 200 miles. Her current miles are due to expire in a couple of months, so hopefully this activity will reset the clock rather than having to transfer in 1,000 Ultimate Rewards.
Offers differ each month, as last month she was targeted for 4,000 bonus miles when booking a flight costing at least $225. Not everyone gets targeted though, as I’m 0/2 the last couple of months. Entering my MileagePlus number at the landing page linked to above gives the following message:
