The latest set of Flying Blue Promo Rewards have been announced and it’s a pretty decent collection of offers this month, with 50% off award flights from Atlanta and Houston to Europe and 25% off from several other North American cities.

Quick Thoughts

This is a good set of offers, especially seeing as it covers travel over the summer months. It means that you can get one-way flights to Europe for less than 15,000 miles, but be aware that fuel surcharges are higher than with some other airlines.

For example, you can find flights from Houston to Amsterdam on numerous dates in August for 12,250 miles + $84.38.

As always, Flying Blue award pricing is a little goofy. If you wanted to fly beyond Amsterdam on KLM, you could fly to Budapest for only 11,500 miles but with slightly higher taxes and fees of $98.75.

Similarly, flights to London are only 10,750 miles + $98.75 on several dates during the summer.

Flying Blue also includes Israel and several North African countries as part of Europe. That means you could fly from Houston to Tel Aviv for 13,500 miles + $111.13, although availability at that price is extremely limited.

I’d imagine that availability on some of these routes will get booked up pretty quickly, so take a look at some destinations you might want to visit if you’re planning a summer vacation and are happy positioning to Houston or Atlanta.

Remember that Flying Blue is a transfer partner of Chase Ultimate Rewards, Amex Membership Rewards, Citi ThankYou, Capital One and Marriott Bonvoy, so you have a plethora of transfer options.

Update: I’d originally missed that the 25% off award flights from Chicago, Montreal, Calgary and Edmonton were in business class rather than economy. These offer some value too, although with even higher taxes/fees. For example, flying one-way from Chicago to Paris in business class costs 43,500 miles and $229.14.

Once again, flying further in Europe costs fewer miles in some cases, such as to Prague for only 39,750 miles and $243.51. Availability doesn’t look as good in the screenshot below, but that’s because only the fares with the $243.51 fees are highlighted; there are several other dates that also only cost 39,750 miles, but they have a slightly higher cash cost of $246.31.

[…] On the first of June, Capital One debuted its latest point transfer bonus and we just realized that we hadn’t covered it. Through June 30, 2019, you can get a 20% point transfer bonus when transferring Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card miles or Capital One® Spark® Miles for Business miles to Air France / KLM Flying Blue. That means the current bonus brings the ratio up to 2 Capital One miles for 1.8 Flying Blue miles. That’s certainly not a bad deal if you’ve got a Flying Blue redemption in mind like one of the latest Flying Blue Promo Awards. […]
