Rakuten is offering triple cashback at a number of stores right now. A new partner was added to that list today as they’re now offering 6%/6x on IHG stays.

Quick Thoughts
When the pandemic hit, several hotel chains and other travel companies paused their affiliate programs which meant it was no longer possible to earn cashback through shopping portals.
One of the exceptions was IHG, although they did drop the rate they offered. We had consistently seen rates of 6%-11% in the year preceding COVID, but they’ve been stuck at 4% for the last six months or so.
It’s therefore great to see the rate back up to 6% on Rakuten today, or 6x if your account is set up to earn Membership Rewards. While that’s still on the low end of where things used to be, it represents triple what Rakuten normally offers and a 50% increase on other cashback portals like TopCashback.
Rakuten’s triple cashback promo was launched to coincide with Prime Day, so there’s a good chance that this 6%/6x rate will end tonight (October 14). If you’ve been planning any upcoming stays with IHG, it might be worth booking them today, especially seeing as most of their properties are offering free cancellation right now.
