Update: Now that Sapphire Preferred referral links are showing the 80K offer, we can see that Chase says to “apply by 11/7/20.” This seems to confirm the November 8th end date. (thanks Larry)
Doctor of Credit reports that the Sapphire Preferred 80K offer may be available through November 8th. This info came from a reader who tried to get Chase to match him to the improved bonus, but through secure message was told “this offer is only available to accounts opened between September 13, 2020 through November 8, 2020.”
I have no idea how reliable this info is, but it sounds reasonably legitimate to me. Having a potential end date in mind is important for a number of reasons:
- People who signed up for the Sapphire Reserve 100K offer 4 years ago, may be waiting to get past the 48 month rule before they can apply for the Sapphire Preferred (to get either the Sapphire Preferred or Sapphire Reserve, you must not be a current Sapphire Preferred or Sapphire Reserve cardholder, and at least 48 months must have passed since you last received a new cardmember bonus for the Sapphire Preferred or Sapphire Reserve card).
- Some may be waiting to see if Chase comes out with an improved Sapphire Reserve offer.
- Some may be waiting to drop under 5/24 before applying.

I messaged Chase and they said I received the bonus on 1/3/2017. Does anyone know know if I apply for the card now (46 months after the bonus) but hold off on meeting the bonus spend until the end of January (48 months after) if I would still qualify for the $80k?
Will it be auto denial without hard inquiry if you are within 24/5 and 48 months rule?

What if I apply for CSP by 11/7, but Chase needs more time to review my application beyond 11/7? Would I still be eligible for the bonus 80k UR?
Yes
It looks as though 80k referral offers work now and they state that the offer expires on 11/7 which is good confirmation that 11/8 is the end date for 80k.

Could I downgrade my Chase Sapphire Preferred to one of the Freedom cards, then reapply for it? It has been well more than 4 years since I received the sign up bonus for my current card . . .
My understanding is that should be fine. Not sure how long you need to wait after downgrading though.

My statement closed on Oct 25, 2016, showing the 100K CSR SUB. Is that the date I would use to add 4 years for the new Sapphire SUB? Or can I fine tune it more by the date when I met the minimum spend requirement earlier in Oct 2016? Or should I wait until at least Nov 01 to sign up?
It might be easier to just get my wife a CSP with this nice 80K SUB, but then I face the problem in a year of trying to convince her to call to downgrade.
I’m not sure which date Chase goes with but I’d add a couple of days to the statement close date to be certain. Nov 1 should be safe.

As long as you’re in the next calendar month I believe it will be fine
in the worst case you can apply and reconsider up until 30 days. Once your past 5/24 the rep will be able to issue an approval
