Toward hacking Asia Miles: the unified oneworld award chart

In my recent post “Searching for business class sweet-spots in Iberia’s OneWorld award chart,” I wrote “I haven’t yet compared Iberia Avios awards to those available from other OneWorld airlines such as Cathay Pacific.”  Well, now that Cathay Pacific is out with a new 60K signup offer, it’s time to take a look. Cathay Pacific offers two different award charts depending upon how many non-Cathay OneWorld partners you fly.  If your itinerary includes more than…

Hacking Avios

Earlier this week I posted “Searching for business class sweet-spots in Iberia’s OneWorld award chart.”  In that post I showed that it was possible to make Iberia OneWorld business class awards cheaper by tacking on economy segments.  Iberia OneWorld awards are awards using Iberia Avios where at least one segment includes an Iberia OneWorld partner that is not part of the Avios loyalty ecosystem (e.g. it applies when flying American Airlines, Cathay Pacific, etc., but…

Searching for business class sweet-spots in Iberia’s OneWorld award chart

Yesterday Nick posted in detail about a sweet-spot on Iberia’s American Airlines award chart: From 11K RT on American: A sweet spot for North American flight redemptions. His post showed that Iberia Avios may be the best currency for flying American Airlines on short round-trip itineraries.  That got me thinking about flying domestic 1st class or international business class.  Does Iberia have similar sweet-spots for flying American Airlines up-front? Here is Iberia’s American Airlines award chart…

From 11K RT on American: A sweet spot for North American flight redemptions

In light of the new Chase Iberia Visa Signature that came out last week, a reader asked about 11,000 Avios round-trip redemptions on American Airlines. I was surprised by the question because at the time I didn’t know what he was talking about. Somehow, a great sweet spot for North American flight redemptions had been hiding under my nose undetected. I’ve often said that it’s hard to maintain an encyclopedic knowledge of all of the domestic and…

Chase launches Iberia Visa w/ 75K total signup bonus

The Chase Iberia Visa Signature was unexpectedly launched today. This brand new credit card comes with a signup bonus to rival the Chase British Airways Visa Signature card and a $1,000 flight discount as a Big Spend Bonus that might make it more interesting. Early reports indicate that it is not subject to the Chase 5/24 rule. The Offer 50,000 Avios after making $3,000 in purchases within the first 3 months plus an additional 25,000 Avios after making a…

(EXPIRED) Business class to Europe from 5,100 points + $480

Iberia is offering an award ticket sale good for 25% off both economy and business class, which brings flights between New York, Boston, or Chicago and Madrid down to just 25,500 miles one-way in business class (or 12,750 on economy class). Prices from Miami are a bit higher, but still incredibly reasonable in business, at 31,900 one-way in business class or 15,950 in economy class. I think this sale is also very interesting because of the option to pay a higher cash co-pay…

Now direct transfers from Ultimate Rewards to Iberia and Aer Lingus

Over the weekend, Chase added the ability to transfer directly from Ultimate Rewards to two more valuable partners, Iberia Plus and Aer Lingus AerClub. While transfers have always been possible to make indirectly (See: Bet You Didn’t Know: 3 Methods To Transfer Avios Between Iberia and British Airways), that has been kind of a pain and required some setup. It will be nice to be able to avoid those hoops and transfer directly from now on. As…

[Expired] 40% transfer bonus to British Airways Avios

Just last week, we reported that the normal transfer ratio from American Express Membership Rewards to British Airways and Iberia Avios has returned to the old 1:1 ratio that had been the norm until a couple of years ago. Not even a week later, we have our first transfer bonus on the new even money ratio, with a 40% bonus meaning that transfers are now 1:1.4 or 250 Membership Rewards points = 350 British Airways Avios…
