Back in March, a lot of hotel chains and other retailers paused their affiliate programs due to COVID-19 which meant they disappeared from shopping portals.
For similar reasons, Wyndham hotel brands and MGM Resorts properties disappeared from the Visa SavingsEdge card-linked program. At some point in recent days or weeks they made a welcome return.
In case you’re not familiar with Visa SavingsEdge, it’s a card-linked program that’s open for people with Visa business credit cards. The program doesn’t have a huge selection of partners, so the temporary disappearance of all these hotels pretty much halved the available partners.
The best thing about the Visa SavingsEdge program is that it’s not a shopping portal. The fact that it’s a card-linked program means you can stack earnings with shopping portals, rather than it being one or the other. Stacking opportunities aren’t too widespread right now seeing as most Wyndham and MGM Resorts brands still aren’t available on shopping portals, but at least you can earn 4-5% cashback in the meantime.
There are a couple of stacking opportunities at the moment though. For example, you can earn 4% cashback on Super 8 stays with Visa SavingsEdge, 5% cashback from TopCashback and 7,500 Wyndham Rewards bonus points if your stay is two nights or more. I know – Super 8 isn’t very aspirational, but if you need to stay at one, you might as well maximize your earnings. We stayed at a Super 8 in Marion, IL two years ago to the day. While it wasn’t our greatest ever hotel stay, it was a good base to explore southern Illinois for Garden of the Gods (the Illinois version, not the Colorado version), Little Grand Canyon, Cave-In-Rock State Park and more.
For paid stays at MGM properties, you could often do better due to the almost constant supply of Amex Offers available at their hotels which didn’t stack due to them being on Amex cards rather than Visa business cards. Those MGM Resorts Amex Offers have fallen by the wayside due to COVID-19 too, so 4% cashback from Visa SavingsEdge on top of 3x Ultimate Rewards from a Chase Ink Business Preferred card is a helpful alternative if you’re willing to brave a trip to Vegas right now.
