World of Hyatt has today announced that the the World of Hyatt Credit Card is now offering new cardmembers the chance to choose between two different welcome bonuses on the card — and with either bonus, you will also get 10 elite night credits in 2020 and another 10 elite night credits in 2021. If you’ve been considering a Hyatt Globalist mattress run (see: Rocking Hyatt’s overlapping promos: How to claim 2 years of top tier status. and Justifying the big Hyatt mattress run: is it worth using points for a “cash” stay?), this could shorten your path.

Quick Thoughts

Funny enough, Greg and I have recently talked about how we expected to see an increased offer on the World of Hyatt credit card on our Frequent Miler on the Air show. It was the only major hotel credit card that hasn’t seen an increase in offer and one of the only consumer rewards credit cards offered by Chase that hadn’t seen an increase in the months following the height of the pandemic in the US. We smelled something coming.

And in fact in the comments on my post about mattress running the Hyatt promo yesterday, a couple of readers noted that I should get the credit card. Greg and I recorded this week’s FM on the Air yesterday (it won’t publish until tomorrow) and we both agreed that the time wasn’t right to apply because we guessed that we’d see an increase in the offer sometime in the next month or so. Little did we know at that time that we would see a new offer before we even published the show (and now I have to toss in a quick voice-over edit before we publish that for those who listen tomorrow!).

What we didn’t know during our discussion was that Hyatt would double the number of elite nights that come with the card. Ordinarily you get 5 elite nights — now you’ll get 10 this year and 10 next year. That can be useful for getting you closer to milestone rewards or status. In my case, as I was planning a 30-night stay that ends in January in order to earn a total of 60 elite nights in January (30 for my stay and 30 as part of the current promotion), getting this credit card would mean that I could cut that stay down to 25 nights, potentially saving me a couple hundred dollars.

In terms of the welcome bonuses, I’m kind of intrigued at the choose-your-own adventure nature of this one. While both of these offers have been available for a while (you could sometimes see the $200 statement credit plus 1 free night offer during the booking process on Hyatt.com), it’s nice to get the option and not have to hunt around if you prefer a different offer.

I should note though that the reason we hadn’t previously listed the $200 statement credit plus 1 free night version on our Best Offers page is because it is clearly an inferior offer. It requires less spend, but the Category 1-7 free night certificate can only save you a maximum of 30K points, meaning that you’re trading away the chance to earn 20K more points for a $200 statement credit. I value 20K Hyatt points significantly more than the $200 statement credit (and I don’t value a Cat 1-7 cert at the full 30K points since 30K points don’t expire in a year and can be used over multiple stays). Even if you know that you’ll get good use out of the Cat 1-7 cert then you also know you could get great use out of the points version of the offer since you could use 30K points to book the same hotel. Unless the required spend is a large hurdle, I’d recommend the points offer here without hesitation.

All that said, I’m fairly disappointed in this announcement. That might stand in contrast to the tone of the previous paragraphs, but the fact here is that the only increase to the offer here is 5 bonus elite nights in 2020 and 5 bonus elite nights in 2021. I’m happy to take extra elite night credits, but I’m surprised that that’s it. Sure, you pick up the choice between the offer that has been available for months (years?) on this card and a new inferior version that you could have found on your own already, but that’s not much to compete with the new bonuses we’ve seen on the Marriott cards for instance. We long ago used to regularly see an offer for 2 free nights at any Hyatt property in the world and we have since seen an offer as high as 60K. I had expected we may have gotten an offer like those when the offer changed. That’s not to say that I think this card isn’t worthwhile — indeed it is, I just hoped we’d see something more coming.

Hi Nick,
I was just approved for the WOH Card. Chase has given me the last 4 Digits But the Card has not arrived yet. Hyatt has congratulated me for getting the Card, etc. and given me the Discoverist status But I only see 5 Elite Nights credited. I contacted Hyatt, who in Turn transferred me to Chase. Chase is telling me they are not aware of the “10 Nights Promotion”.who do I contact and what do I say?

Phil

I’m in the exact same boat. Have you received your remaining 5 nights yet?

Gautam

Same here. I SM’d chase with a screenshot of the offer and they seemed to think I was asking to match the offer, telling me I wasn’t eligible. They don’t seem to understand that this is the offer I signed up with.

[…] I’ve also removed the Hyatt card from the “Wait for better” list. As predicted, a better offer for this card has appeared, but it wasn’t enough of a boost to justify moving the card to the Top Picks […]

Soobaerodude

Is this live? The landing page for this offer and the terms do not say anything about 10 EQNs for 2020 or 2021, only the standard 5 nights

Soobaerodude

Seems to be mentioned on links off the Hyatt homepage. Referral links only mention 5 nights

Spencer

If one would pay cash, I’m sure the 9x on Hyatt properties from the World of Hyatt card needs to be factored in.

Spencer

For the mattress run

Spencer

Can you please update the google sheet to reflect the new changes of bonus multiplier

Greg The Frequent Miler

There’s no change to the bonus multiplier, just to the number of elite nights you get from having the card (and that’s temporary)

Spencer

So just that I’m clear, would I earn 9x points from the World of Hyatt card if I was paying cash for the mattress run?

The 1-7 cert & $200 offer has been available for awhile via dummy booking, was really hoping for more.

What a wonderful time to be under or soon under 5/24.

In November I drop to 3/24 and P2 drops to 2/24.

I’m thinking for the foreseeable future it going to be a great opportunity to score some aggressive SUBs – but with potential downside of underwhelming opportunities / value with COVID globally.

Personally ATM I think that the best Premium card with SUB with our limited travel environment is USB AR – rentals/delays/PP/In-flight Wifi and Net AF of $75. As well as $750-$975 sub (3X mobile wallet/food on $4.5K MSR a 1.5cpp RtR)

With equipment changes, Premium cabin travel, soft/hard product, lounge’s – transferrable points if your earn and burn less appealing.

Elite statuses while easier to earn in a long time – the elite benefits seemed to have fizzled on value returned.

Going to keep my powder dry and gamble on bigger bonuses in the coming six months.

Grant

, you forgot to mention that Hyatt CC holders get 25% back on Hyatt points during the current promo, making the 50K points worth an extra 12,500 points if used during the rebate promo.

Phil

There was a brief moment I heard some people getting 70K as a bonus offer. It think it was “targeted”, because I wasn’t able to get it for myself. This offer is compelling as I’m also mattress running.

Quo Vadis?

Have the WOH Visa card now, and would really like to see Hyatt launch a premium credit card like the (Amex) Hilton Aspire.

L M

I just got approved late Wednesday. Should I call Chase to see if I am approved for this new bonus? I call Hyatt and it didn’t seem like the rep was aware of the new promotion.

Sam B

So the question is..are you gonna get the card Nick? Inquiring minds would like to know haha

doublejade

I just applied this card a month ago. Can I ask Chase to match the 10 elite night offer?

BenjiTravel

I asked. They said no.

WR2

Hopefully they’d apply the 10 nights to existing cardholders too. It’s kind of silly not to, as those with the card are much more likely to actually care about elite night credits for this year. Very few who don’t currently have the card would care at all about 2020 elite nights. This would help with their retention numbers too, as it’s harder and harder to justify keeping a hotel card during Covid.

WR2

I get that SUBs are going after new customers, but they need to offer something that their target market values. The number of people in the US who don’t have the WoH card and actually have a reasonable chance to hit a meaningful milestone this year (30 nights or more) is probably in the triple digits…hardly worth building a promotion around. However, you throw a carrot out to existing cardholders like me with only19 nights, no way I’m going to go for 30 nights with organic stays, but if suddenly I’m at 24 then it’s a real possibility that I go out of my way to make some Hyatt stays.

New customers will care more about points and free nights, not 2020 elite night credits.

J B

Do current card holders also get 10 elite night credits this year and next year?
